My "Guy Time"...

A few years ago I started my "guy time"...I'm not sure that's the exact term we use, but it's what it is. Once a month, I would take each of my boys by themselves on a special outing. It might be lunch, or just a trip to their favorite store.

I would take Caleb out on the 5th of the month, (the day he was born) and Cameron on the 22nd, (the day he was born). Unfortunately, the life of a church planter caused us to put this tradition on hold for a while. I told the boys that we would start it back up in June...so we did! :)

My day with Caleb was something I'd never really done before...shop for clothes. In previous years, I would buy clothes while I was out and put them on his bed. He's never been picky, (he's still not) but I thought it was time that he get to pick out what he likes. (Especially since he's too big for the "Boy's Department"!)

We went over to The Summit and started our adventure...I loved sitting there waiting for him to come out with new outfits on. It's amazing how much older he looked wearing things from the Men's Department. Ahhh!! The Men's Department?!?!?

Cameron's time was last week...we went to The Louisville Zoo. But before we even made it there, we stopped at Cameron's favorite place... Krispy Kreme. Of course, we went early enough to get a hot and fresh one. (Or one dozen, whatever.) It's something that's hard to even describe!

At first, we were listening to the radio...but then I turned it off. I was sitting in the car with my buddy and this was no time to listen to music. I wanted to know what was on his mind... He makes me laugh so many times a day and I needed to laugh.

He talks, I laugh. He likes to ask questions about when I was little and LOVES to hear about my Atari 7800. He loves to hear me talk about Ms. Pac Man, Pole Position, and Food Fight...(my three favorite games). If you've ever talked to Cameron... he's probably asked you what your favorite game was, and he'll remember what you say, so that he can talk about it next time he sees you.

He didn't get to see the Komodo Dragon. (His absolute favorite at the zoo...) But he did get to see the baby giraffe named Crosby, so he was satisfied. He found a Japanese Crane, named Yoshi. It caught his eye and ran over there...there was no way I could have read that sign! We were too far away...but he saw "Yoshi", that was all it took. I loved hearing about the things that he read and the things that he learned.

I love these times. I would love to do it more often, but for now I look forward to my "guy time". I hope they do too...

Since Livia just turned 1 we might wait until next year to start her special day but I am going to implement this idea ASAP for Luke's Bday and Our Anniversary each month. The 11th will become Luke's Special Day and the 18th will be Our's as a Couple. Hope it's Ok that I hi-jacked this from you ... it's just GREAT! Thanks SO Much for Sharing!

Oh, you're welcome! I'm glad you're going to start. :) My boys spend so much time together, so it's nice for them to get out once in a while...without each other!
