BootCamp 101

Yeah, yeah, what can I say? Matt's always been better at this blogging thing...

So let's see...I moved to KY on September 1st. Some great friends came and helped us move. We stayed at the nastiest hotel in Ohio called the Tallyho-tel. The sheets had cigarette burns in them so I slept on top of the sheets and fully clothed. :) There were graffiti tags on the back of the bathroom door...no one walked around in their bare feet! Our first adventure as church planters...and it was great!

We only had five days to unload the moving truck and unpack as many boxes as we could before loading the car and heading to "Church Planting BootCamp". The boys stayed with my mom and dad and off to Carlinville, IL we went.

BootCamp is a week long strategic planning event that prepares the "planters" for the early stages and eventual maturing of a church. We learned to recruit and mobilize workers, communicate vision, and be a strategic planner. (from the church multiplication website) I also learned that I can't play racquetball ball and that a sprained ankle hurts much more the next morning.

We really had a great time. We met people that were going through a lot of the same things as we were. It was cool to hear their stories and to get feedback on what we were doing. I really had to come out of my "comfort zone"...playing games and making sculptures with play-doh was part of the learning process. And those things will stay with me!

(I'm not sure that the boys missed us much, but knowing we had a surprise for them from our trip, made them jump in the car a little quicker!)

So now we're back in the "Bluegrass State" and trying to put to use all that we learned. It was a bit overwhelming at times. But I still have that confidence that God gave me when He first called us to leave NJ and plant a church.

If God wanted someone else to plant a church in Crestwood, KY...He would have. So here I am...let's get movin'!!

Oh, they love video game T-shirts. So we got them both one. You would have thought they won a million dollars! (They don't get out much!) But, they're awesome boys, if I do say so myself! :)
